Over 100 in Balunu availed of medical services from ZCWD mission

Over a hundred barrio folk availed of medical services during a one-day mission sponsored jointly by the Regional Health Office and Zamboanga City Water District in Balunu, Upper Salaan last Friday, September 22, 2017.

Done primarily for residents of areas in the fringes of the City Watershed zone, the medical mission was a follow up to one conducted In Imelda Tolosa last March 30, 2017.

Doctors Sitti Nurussamsi C. Amilasan and Rolando Lilienthal Bucoy Jr. along with nurses and medical personnel of the Health Department motored to the remote sitio to offer medical services to the residents there, mostly womenfolk and children.

Personnel from ZCWD headed by Watershed and Environmental Management Division head Engr. Archilles A. Braulio, Water Resources Management Division head Mirasol Larete-Kanindot, Building and Ground Maintenance Division Officer In-charge Arnold A. Buscas and Community Relations and External Affairs Section head Edgardo Lorenzo D. Baños, coordinated the medical mission.

It is our way of saying thank you to the people living in the periphery of the watershed for helping us guard it from intrusion and harmful plunder from outsiders, Engr. Braulio said.

Assistance was also provided by the teaching staff of Balunu Elementary School where the mission was staged.

Medicine and supplies were provided by DOH and NEO Med Marketing, which also provided supplies in the previous medical mission to Tolosa.

‘It is part of Zamboanga City Water District’s Corporate Social Responsibility to stage activities such as these, as we owe these people a gesture of gratitude for being partners with us in protecting our precious watershed’, ZCWD Vice Chairperson Milagros L. Fernandez disclosed earlier.

‘In fact we should continue doing these missions if only to reach out to the less fortunate members of our society’, Fernandez, a doctor by profession and a former Health Undersecretary added.
