The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Pasonanca Natural Park, extends its support and recognition for the successful conduct of the Watershed Run 2026 held on April 19, 2026, at Cesar Climaco Freedom Park – Abong-Abong (Helmet), Zamboanga City. The event was spearheaded by the Zamboanga Trail Runners (ZTR) and the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Alumni Association Batch 2001 – “Ignis ’01”, carrying the theme: “Watershed Warriors (Run to Protect), One Run. One Mission. Protect Our Watershed.”
The event helped raise awareness on the importance of protecting watershed areas, which are the main source of water for Zamboanga City. ZCWD recognizes this event as an important community effort that promotes environmental protection and conservation.
A total of 243 participants joined the event, further highlighting the strong turnout and support from the community. Participants joined the 5KM, 8KM, and 16KM race categories, allowing runners of different levels to take part while experiencing the natural environment of the Pasonanca watershed area. The event also encouraged community involvement in protecting natural resources for future generations. Upon completing the race, participants were given Narra seedlings, a lasting symbol of their commitment to environmental conservation and a reminder to help nurture a greener future.
Funds and support generated from the event will benefit the Pasonanca ASEAN Heritage Park, the Pasonanca Watershed Forest Guards, and the Ignis’ 01 Scholarship Fund. These beneficiaries reflect the shared goal of supporting both environmental protection and community development.
ZCWD thanks Zamboanga Trail Runners (ZTR), Ateneo de Zamboanga University Alumni Association Batch 2001 – “Ignis ’01”, all participants, partners, volunteers, as well as DENR and Pasonanca Natural Park for their support and cooperation. ZCWD remains committed to protecting and sustainably managing the city’s watershed areas and to continued collaboration for long-term water security.
