ZCWD STRENGTHENS WATER SAMPLING COMPETENCE THROUGH CERTIFICATION TRAINING
Recognizing that safe drinking water begins with accurate and reliable water quality monitoring, the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), through its Regional Training Center (RTC), conducted a Certification Training on Water Sampling Personnel on July 29, 2026, at the Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.
The one-day training brought together water sampling personnel from 21 water districts across the country: Baybay City, Bongao, Cagayan de Oro City, Cantilan, Daanbantayan, Don Carlos, Gamay, Infanta (Quezon), Isabel, Kauswagan, Kumalarang, La Carlota City, Las Nieves, Lianga, Malungon, Sagay, San Jose, San Marcelino, Sibuco, Sibulan, and Zamboanga City Water District.
The activity opened with a welcome message from ZCWD OIC Atty. Mark Allen M. Paredes, represented by SIRMO-A Sundae Grace P. Najar, who emphasized the importance of continuous learning and professional development in public service.
The training covered the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW 2017) and the proper collection of drinking water samples for microbiological, physical, and chemical analyses. More than a lecture-based session, the training provided participants with hands-on practicum activities, allowing them to apply the proper sampling procedures and techniques discussed during the technical sessions.
The sessions were facilitated by experts from the National Reference Laboratory (NRL): Ma. Angelica S. Cesar, RMT; Chrisanty Marion C. Canilao, RCH; John Mark S. Domingo, RMT; Precious V. Pineda, RCH; and Shan Nicolai A. Villaluna, RCH.
Through the combination of technical discussions and practical exercises, participants strengthened their knowledge, skills, and competence in proper water sample collection. The activity also fostered knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices among water sampling personnel from different water districts.
The training reaffirmed the shared commitment of the participating water districts to safe and reliable water services, with the continued support of the ZCWD General Manager and Board of Directors for capacity-building, professional development, and technical excellence.
Every properly collected water sample is more than a technical responsibility, it is a commitment to public health, quality service, and the trust of the community.
