The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) has officially broken ground on its Well Drilling Exploration Project at the ZCWD-UWAK property in Barangay Cabatangan. This initiative marks a crucial step in expanding local water infrastructure and enhancing supply reliability across the city.

Guided by initial geo-resistivity surveys, operations will drill up to 60 meters deep to evaluate subsurface geology and production potential. The site will undergo rigorous water quality testing alongside a 72-hour pump test to establish drawdown, recharge rates, and sustainable yield. Drilling and exploration activities are scheduled for completion within 30 calendar days. Test findings will shape the engineering design for full-scale production facilities and network distribution pipelines.

Once operational, the new well is projected to supply 500 to 800 households (final capacity depending on verified yield). The expanded network will benefit:

> Uwak, Cabatangan

> Hipolito Drive in San Roque through Townsville Subdivision up Salum

> High-elevation areas along San Roque Bypass Road (pending feeder line construction)

The ceremony was led by Board of Directors Chairperson Atty. John Paul S. Pagteilan and General Manager BGEN Antonio John B. Divinagracia PA (RET). They were joined by Assistant General Manager for Technical Services Engr. Marli P. Acosta-De Fiesta, Assistant General Manager for Finance Atty. Mark Allen M. Paredes, and key department heads.
