May 28, 2024 – The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), in collaboration with Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ), successfully conducted a Barangay Orientation Seminar for the newly elected Barangay Officials. The event, attended by 191 participants, aimed to familiarize officials with ZCWD’s ongoing and upcoming projects and foster better community relations.

ZCWD General Manager Reynaldo R. Cabilin warmly welcomed the honorable guests, including the Punong Barangay, committee chairs for Water and Utility, and Barangay Kagawads. Participants from the UZ community also joined in person and via Google Meet attendees for this event.

The seminar covered several key topics:

– 2024 Plans and Projects: Engr. Marli Acosta P. De-Fiesta, Assistant General Manager (AGM) for Technical Services Group, outlined the projects planned for the year.

– Mainline Rehabilitation Program: Mr. Michael Angelo M. Carbon, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) AGM under the Operations Group, discussed ongoing rehabilitation efforts of the Pipeline and Appurtenances Maintenance Department (PAMD).

– Legal Concerns: Legal Assistant Mr. Yusop S. Masdal, on behalf of Atty. Lovell Abad, Department Manager for the Legal Department, provided insights into laws, rules, regulations, and policies on illegal water service connections.

– Financial Transparency: Atty. Mark Allen M. Paredes, AGM for Finance Group, presented the ZCWD’s financial status and recent policies to ensure transparency.

Following the presentations, an open forum allowed participants to voice their concerns and suggestions directly, enabling a productive dialogue to improve ZCWD’s services for the community. Atty. Vincent F. Fernandez, Officer-in-Charge AGM for Administration Group, delivered closing remarks on behalf of Ms. Louella A. Aguilera. He expressed gratitude to the Barangay Officials and the UZ community, particularly the Safety, Health, and Environment Department (SHED) led by Ms. Jessica C. Pacio, and the External Affairs and Institutional Development Center (EAIDC) led by Ms. Maria Katherine E. Lim, for their support and participation.

The ZCWD, through its Community Relations and External Affairs Section (CREAS), extended heartfelt thanks to all participants for their time and engagement, contributing to the seminar’s success.
