December 9, 2024 (Monday) – The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) is taking decisive action to combat the alarming increase in water meter theft incidents. To address this pressing issue, ZCWD Chairperson Ernesto F. Ubando, Jr., ZCWD General Manager Reynaldo R. Cabilin, MPA, and ZCWD representatives met with the NBI and local police authorities on December 5, 2024, to strengthen collaboration and implement effective countermeasures.
โWater meter theft is not only a financial loss for ZCWD but also a significant inconvenience for our valued customers,โ said GM Reynaldo R. Cabilin, ZCWD General Manager. โWe are committed to working closely with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible and deter future incidents.โ
ZCWD has reported a significant increase in water meter theft in the city. From January to December this year, 245 water meters were stolen. In the first nine days of December alone, 15 water meters were reported stolen and subsequently replaced by ZCWD. This represents a concerning trend, as water meter theft can lead to increased water loss and higher costs for consumers.
ZCWD urges the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to water meter theft. By working together, we can protect our water infrastructure and ensure a reliable water supply for all.
