March 18-20, 2025 โ€“ The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), through its Environment and Water Resources Department led by Engr. Valerie Gay P. Yuayan and Water Resources Management Division Mirasol F. Larete-Kanindot, facilitated a watershed tour for students from Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU). The activity was part of AdZU’s “WAVEs – Klaseng Ibang Klase (KLIK)” program, organized by the Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement Office (SACSI).

During the tour, ZCWD staff guided the students on a trek to the Diversion Weir and Intake Facility, providing them with an up-close look at the infrastructure that sustains the city’s water supply. The tour continued with visits to the Tree Nursery and Bamboo Setum, where students witnessed the agencyโ€™s reforestation and conservation initiatives.

Following the tour, participants attended a symposium at the Banuang Multipurpose Hall. Presentations were delivered by Forester Leroy M. Delos Reyes of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), highlighting the significance of Pasonanca Natural Park as an ASEAN Heritage Park. Community Relations Chief Raul Ruben R. Rivera of the ZCWD Community Relations and External Affairs Section discussed water conservation efforts and the celebration of World Water Day 2025, themed “Bayanihan sa Katubigan, Krisis sa Klima Labanan!”, Forester Ryan Ed Estrada of the ZCWD Watershed and Environment Management Division elaborated on the agencyโ€™s vital role in preserving water resources within Pasonanca Natural Park.

Through this immersive experience, students gained valuable insights into watershed management, environmental conservation, and the collective responsibility of safeguarding Zamboanga Cityโ€™s water resources.
