West Coast Pipe laying project starts soon

megamenu -ZCWD_logoClose to 30 trips will be made to ferry multi-sized Ductile Iron (DI) pipes to Barangay Sinunuc as contractor Ecosystems is set to commence work on the 23-kilometer pipeline laying project in the city’s West Coast.

The pipes, aboard foreign cargo vessel, arrived from China yesterday and the downloading will start as soon as possible.

The pipe laying project is a key component of the ongoing Prime water 50 MLD filtration plant constructions at Patalon, which seeks to boost the water distribution capacity of Zamboanga City Water District.

ZCWD Chairman Efren Arañez disclosed pipe laying project will extend from Pamucutan where the plant is being constructed to its terminal point in front of City Hall.

Costing ZCWD upwards of P500 million pesos, the pipeline will bring down water processed at the Prime Water Plant to the city proper by middle of this year.

ZCWD is expected to boost its water supply once Prime Water Pamucutan becomes operational.

Chairman Arañez disclosed the 50 MLD plant will initially deliver 30 MLD (million-liter per day) of water for the first two (2) years to ZCWD. It will up its production to capacity of 50 MLD in the next three (3) years of operation.

Aranez also added Ecosystems will need to speed up its pipe-laying so it can catch up with Prime water’s filtration plant construction so it can pipe in water into the system by middle of this year.

Ecosystem just like the Villar-owned Prime water group won in their respective bids to execute the projects.

Chairman Arañez called on the people especially those in the West Coast area to help bear out inconveniences brought about by the pipe laying project saying the end effect will redound to the benefit of everyone in the city.

Once finished the water supply situation in the city will improved dramatically, but this will not totally eliminate deficiencies in supply just yet, Chairman Arañez added.

More projects are on the pipeline to boost water production to meet current demands of over a million people in the city.
