Edwin M. Caliolio, erstwhile Vice Chairman of the Board at Zamboanga City Water District formally assumed the top post in the water utility firm after being elected chairman yesterday.
He will serve out the remaining term of chairman Arañez until 2016.
The special election came about after incumbent chairman Efren F. Arañez JR., stepped down citing health reasons.
Arañez, the former city mayor retained his seat as member of the five – men board.
Former board secretary Jose Vicente Atilano III likewise moved up to become Vice Chairman of the Board while board newcomer Esther Orendian was elected board Secretary.
Former Health Under Secretary Milagros Fernandez, a former Board Chairman is the fifth member of the Water district board.
Caliolio in his first official statement of the Water District board declared, “I am committed to pursue the programs and visions of former Chair Nonie Arañez and we pay tribute to his leadership the past year and a half at the helm of this body”.
For his part JV Atilano disclosed Caliolio takes over the leadership of the board at a critical moment, assured that the board is in good hands to steer the water utility firm and face up to the challenges of the future with great hopes and optimism.
The new Board Chair is a graduate of Liberal Arts from Siliman University and finished a course in law at the University of Santo Tomas.
Caliolio brings to the post a wide array of expertise and vast experience in the field of management, education and telecommunications.
He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern City Colleges, one of the premier private educational institutions here.
Caliolio is also Chief Executive Officer of the Zamboanga Peninsula Hospital the city’s newest and most modern hospital here.
He was one time manager of Sun Cable Systems here, one of two pioneering cable television operator in Zamboanga.
Arañez, a former city mayor for his part thank the board and the water district management team for the support accorded him during his stint as chairman.
He said hopes are high the water district company will soon rise to become one of the best modern water utility firm in this part of the country. (Ed Baños – ZCWD CREAS)
